The New Jersey community is reeling after a Catholic high school teacher was arrested on disturbing charges of child sexual abuse and child pornography. According to reports from ABC7NY, the teacher allegedly recorded and distributed explicit content involving underage students. The arrest followed an intensive investigation, during which authorities uncovered video evidence allegedly taken on school grounds. Law enforcement is now working to identify potential victims, many of whom may still be unaware they were filmed.
This case highlights the deep betrayal of trust that occurs when an educator—especially within a faith-based institution—is accused of such predatory behavior. Parents send their children to religious schools expecting higher moral standards and a commitment to safety. When those standards are violated, it causes not just personal trauma but also community-wide disillusionment.
The suspect reportedly used his position of authority to access and exploit students, making the alleged crimes even more egregious. As law enforcement continues its investigation, concerns have been raised about how long the abuse went undetected and what safeguards may have failed.
Under New Jersey law, the production and possession of child pornography are serious offenses, punishable by lengthy prison terms. When these acts occur in educational settings, they may also lead to civil liability for the school or the institution responsible for supervising the accused. In addition to criminal prosecution, victims have the right to pursue civil lawsuits to seek compensation and hold responsible parties accountable.

If you suspect that your child may have been affected by this teacher or by similar abuse in an institutional setting, consider taking the following steps:
Speak with your child in a supportive and non-threatening environment.
Contact local law enforcement or child protective services.
Seek immediate counseling or trauma-informed therapy for your child.
Consult with an attorney experienced in child sexual abuse cases.
Even if an incident occurred years ago, New Jersey’s statute of limitations laws have been extended to allow more time for survivors to come forward. Civil lawsuits can provide compensation for therapy, medical treatment, and other damages related to abuse.
Every child deserves a safe and nurturing educational environment. When that safety is violated, families have legal rights and resources available to them. At Survivors of Abuse NJ, we offer free, confidential consultations to help you understand your legal options and pursue accountability.
