In a heartbreaking and horrifying case out of Sayreville, New Jersey, a former daycare worker has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after admitting to the sexual abuse of 14 children, all under the age of 8. The crimes occurred at Superhero Schoolhouse, a now-closed daycare center located in the Parlin section of Sayreville.
The convicted abuser, Kyle Finn, 23, of Sayreville, pleaded guilty to multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault. According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, the abuse took place on-site at the daycare while Finn was employed as a daycare aide.
The first report of abuse was made in October 2020, when Sayreville Police were contacted about a suspected sexual assault. Initial findings involved three children. However, as the investigation expanded, more families came forward—ultimately revealing 14 young victims, ranging in age from 2 to 8 years old.
The children were abused during the time they were under Finn's care at the facility. The full list of victims includes:
2 years old
3 years old
4 years old
5 years old (multiple victims)
6 years old (multiple victims)
8 years old (multiple victims)
This wide range of ages and the high number of victims reveal a deeply disturbing pattern of predatory behavior that went undetected for far too long.
On March 1, 2025, Finn was sentenced to 40 years in prison. He must serve 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole. Upon release, he will be subject to parole supervision for life and will be required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law.
In June 2024, Finn officially pleaded guilty to six counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault and one count of second-degree sexual assault.
Beyond Finn’s conviction, scrutiny also surrounds the director of Superhero Schoolhouse, Charmaine Larkin, 44, of South River. She has been charged with failure to report child abuse, a disorderly persons offense. The failure to alert authorities or intervene earlier may have contributed to the prolonged duration of Finn's abuse.
Finn also worked in other child-facing roles prior to his arrest. He served as a camp counselor for Our Lady of Victories Parish Church, the Sayreville Recreation Department, and even volunteered for the Sayreville Association for Brain Injured Children. These positions raise serious concerns about the screening and monitoring procedures used by institutions responsible for children’s care.
For families whose children have been abused, the emotional and psychological toll is immeasurable. In addition to criminal prosecution, survivors and their families have the right to seek civil justice. Filing a civil lawsuit can help hold both abusers and negligent institutions accountable—and provide financial resources for ongoing therapy, medical care, and recovery.
