Julie Rizzitello, a 36-year-old former English teacher at Wall Township High School in New Jersey, is facing additional charges of sexual assault involving a second student. These new allegations have shocked the community and highlighted the ongoing issue of sexual abuse in educational settings.
Rizzitello was initially arrested on July 3, 2024, and charged with two counts of sexual assault, witness tampering, and three counts of criminal sexual contact for allegedly having a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old student earlier this year. The alleged encounters took place between April and June 14, 2024, in multiple locations, including Belmar, Brick, and Wall Township.
On July 17, 2024, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced new charges against Rizzitello, including one count of second-degree sexual assault and one count of third-degree witness tampering. These new charges stem from allegations of a sexual relationship with another student that began in 2017. Prosecutors allege that Rizzitello engaged in various sexual acts with this second victim on multiple occasions in Brick Township.
Laura Laughlin, Esq., a prominent sexual abuse attorney in New Jersey, comments on the case: "These allegations are deeply troubling and highlight the vulnerability of students to abuse by those in positions of authority. In New Jersey, the law recognizes the power imbalance between teachers and students, which is why sexual contact between them is illegal even if the student is of legal age."Laughlin adds, "It's crucial for survivors to understand that they have legal options beyond the criminal justice system. Civil lawsuits can provide a path to justice and healing, holding not just the perpetrator but also potentially negligent institutions accountable."

Laura Laughlin emphasizes, "Survivors should know that they are not alone, and it's never too late to come forward. New Jersey has recently extended the statute of limitations for childhood sexual abuse cases, giving survivors more time to seek justice."
